Netflix have just released this satirical series called Dear White People adapted over the movie with the same name. At first when it popped up on my Netflix feed I though "Oh cool a fun and serious series that comical express racial issues on universities in an new and enlightening way". But I was wrong, I found the series flaky, doing too much with too many stories and protagonists in very short time. Every episode the story progresses but from a new viewpoint, leaving the viewer with a lot of half finished stories that may or may not get mentioned further on. It had a great potential to really make a mark for equality in the future, but as the story progresses it becomes more like internet teenage drama. The only way I can say that it is in any form some good series, is if it is seen as a cultural contemporary picture of how "edgy, sensitive and socially and emotionally incapable" our generation is. This story shows how the current generations behave and talk on the internet.
On one hand I find this series really bad and boring for not being everything it could be. The story is unclear, trying to be political correct without knowing what to do with it. It just throws a bunch of different "black" stories in a mix called college and expects it to be or do something. On the other hand it is a great artistic and strong series showing how our current society acts and think in a bunch of selfish, navel picking and random acts, thinking that if they just scream and shout they will get anything they wish for because they can not take care of themselves.
So before you start watching the show, you should take a minute to adjust your expectations. I will not recommend it, unless you have to write about teenagers of the 00's.
