Deadpool 2 - Movie Review

The second installment in the Deadpool movie franchise is here, trying to overdo the first. Deadpool has become an international gun for hire / anti hero bringing down any "evil" organization he wants to bring down. Cable arrives from the future to remove a teenage mutant from the timeline in order to save his family. Deadpool who has reached a point in his life where he wants to start a family with his girlfriend Vanessa, decides to do the right thing and save the kid from Cable. Can Cable kill the kid before the events leading to his family's death is set in motion or will Deadpool save him.
That is the basic plot of the movie; it is hard to say more than that without spoiling, as there in the trailers is given very little information. All the trailers told us was that, Cable would arrive, there was kid in need of saving and Deadpool formed a team to do so.
It is a serious comedy action movie, it walks on the line between being absolute ridiculous and being dark and serious. Which is exactly what a Deadpool movie shall do. It is a hard line to walk as it can easily end up being a flop of stupidity, but they manage to do it perfectly. Unlike the first movie there is nearly no nudity in this, giving it a more serious feel; I am not sure if it is intentional or if they got hit by the nudity police but it works, it does not need boobs to be good. They are still making fun out of everything, nothing is held in too high regard not even themselves. It is filled with humour and satire trying to make us laugh and feel a little provoked.
It is clear they have a higher special effects budget in this movie, it is all made better and cooler. Domino's super luck is nicely made and the general damage to Deadpool's body is also great. In general they are great at using their characters and staying true to their powers and stories (Deadpool is still missing his teleportation power) but Juggernaut has been redeemed from X-men The Last Stand. I still find it annoying that Colossus is constantly in his metal form, but it is a nice statement about the overuse of CGI effects in movies. And then there is the time travel part, Cable brings a burned teddy bear from the future with him to our time and as his mission is resolved the bear becomes undamaged and it makes an inconsistency. I am unhappy about it and it would take some time to really talk about so I will not.
It is a really great movie, a little slow at the start, but it had an James Bond like intro song which was nice. Ryan Reynolds is perfect as Deadpool and I surely hope there will come more. I will give it five out of five stars. I am not entirely sure yet but I think it may be better than the first.

Oh and Negasonic Teenage Warhead should have some more screen time, I would love a movie with her playing hero while being sarcastic teenage brooding self. She is so cool.
