Next Gen - Movie Review

In a future world where every person have a robot and everything has been robotized, the young girl Mai is struggling. Her father left when she was little and her mother tries to fill the void of loneliness with robots. In school she gets bullied and beaten by the football team for being different. One day Mai gets dragged to the release of the new gen 6 Q-bot. And when her mother is distracted by the new robot, Mai wanders off and accidentally walks into a secret laboratory where she activates an experimental robot. With the help of this new robot, Mai can finally get an outlet for her pent up anger and wrecks havoc around the city. But the real problems starts when the CEO of the robot company turns out to have a secret plan for the new robots and Mai's new friend is a weapon created to stop him.
This animation movie is a combination of a teen drama movie and I, Robot. It is a great story in a beautiful world. It poses questions like when does technology go to far and can robots substitute human interaction. It is very relevant compared to our current society as we keep developing new technology, AI and plays with the idea of robots. It shows a very possible future with both positive and negative aspects; with something to fear and something to hope for.
It is a very beautiful movie with amazing animations. It makes good use of humor to comment on some of our society's peculiarities. On a personal opinion it could have used more intense emotions connected to scene where the experimental robot deletes his memories. And for that I will only give ti four stars out of five. Not because it is in any way lacking but because I believe it could have been even better.
