Sierra Burgess is a slightly overweight girl, who is more focused on being her own person instead of comforting to the popular standard of beauty. The quarterback Jamey from another school, who is unlike the stereotypical jock, is a generic nice guy and is friends with some of the school losers. He tries invite Veronica, a popular cheerleader, for her number but she gives him Sierra Burgess number instead because she believe him to be a loser. Jamey start writing to Sierra believing it is Veronica and though Sierra knows it is wrong, she plays along. When the relationship between them grows bigger, Sierra realizes that she needs Veronica's help to keep fooling Jamey and offers her a deal.
It is a high-school movie with many of the classic situations, like the unattractive intelligent girl falling for the hot quarterback and the mean attractive cheerleader is having a hard less perfect home-life. And it deals with the classic problems like the pressure of being a good student, social status and body shaming. Though it dismisses some of the problems like the hatred between Sierra and Veronica in order to bring the story forward a little faster.
The movie does a new take on the classic story that most of us grew up with during 80's and 90's. It is a movie type many of us love because it shows the emotional teenager overcoming personal problems and evolving as a person. It is a nice feel good movie and it is pretty and easy to look at which makes it a good movie to cuddle up to. I can not think of anything bad to say about this movie it just a wholesome nice movie.
I will give it five out of five stars as it is exactly what you wish for and want from this type of movie.
