Aquaman - Movie Review

After defeating Steppenwolf with the other Justice League members Aquaman takes out to help those in need on the sea. He has become a hero and rescues a submarine from deep sea pirates. At the same time Orm the King of Atlantis is plotting to attack the surface world to safe the world from the polluting humans. So the future Queen Mera (Y'Mera Xebelle Challa) leaves Atlantis to bring back Aquaman and let him take the place as rightful King over his half-brother Orm. Aquaman reluctantly agrees to Mera's plan after Orm sends tidal waves to the surface with every warship and piece of garbage that has been left in the sea. Aquaman challenges Orm to a battle to the death for the crown and loses but is saved in the last second by Mera. On the run they seek out the legendary trident of King Atlan so they can return and defeat Orm.
The movie functions as a origin story and an in depth character development for Aquaman. It is the story of how and why Aquaman becomes the King of the sea. It is very well executed and gives the viewer a better overall knowledge of Aquaman. It also introduces one of Aquaman's arch enemies Black Manta which is well-done. And it is very pleasing to the eye. It shows a whole new gigantic world under the sea that is unknown to the world of humans. It got fabulous animations and the costume design is spot on. Many superhero movies has updated the comic costumes to new and more modern costumes but this movie has brought the comic costumes to live as we love them.
It is a great adventure/war movie. It may not have the big impact on the Justice League movie storyline but it makes a good stand alone movie. It brings a war scene in a somewhat three dimensional space which not many movies can do. There are only a few female characters but it depicts a patriarch regal society like described in the comics. Also it is an opposition to the all female society of Themyscira where Wonder Woman is from.
I will give this movie four and a half stars out of five because I feel like something is missing though it is all out a great movie.
