The young Miles Morales is having a hard time adjusting to his new school. After a tough day he sneaks out to meet with his uncle. They go down the subway tunnels to a secluded area where they undisturbed can make street art. While down in the tunnels Miles gets bitten by an experimental spider. The next day his body goes through changes and he sets out to find answers. He goes back down under ground to find the spider that bit him and ends up in a battle between Spider-man and Green Goblin. Spider-man is trying to destroy King Pins particle accelerator but Goblin throws him into the energy beam which causes an explosion. Spider-man tries to save Miles from danger and gets defeated by Goblin. King Pin kills Spider-man and sends Prowler to capture Miles. But his problems does not stop here. More Spider-people appears and they are trapped in an alternative dimension to their own. They need to work together in order to get back to their own dimensions before they die and hopefully Miles will learn to control his powers and stop King Pin from destroying the city.
It is a very artistic take on an animation movie with a creative design. There have been many Spider-man movies and cartoons but this may have the closest feeling to watching a comic book. It has a truly amazing art style though it may take a few minutes to get used to. It got a lot of great humour and is very emotional. It hit emotions better than many live action movies do. The plot is good and straight forward and the characters are well made.
The only real comment I have for the movie is that they should maybe have cut either Peter Porker, Spider-man Noir or Peni Parker and user more time on the two others. They even share their recap part and in a shortened version. The story is mainly focussing on Miles, Spider-Gwen and Spider-man. The three others are just a quick joke that could have used more time to get in depth with.
But it is really an incredibly made movie and I am looking forward for more movies getting made in this art style. I will give it five out of five stars for it was a lovely and amazing movie experience.
