Twenty-five years after Mary Poppins left the Banks family in the first movie she returns to help them again. Michael is a widowed dad of three kids who after he lost his wife took a loan in the bank and is now about to lose the family home. Jane helps him as much as she can but it is far from enough. They get till the end of the week to come up with money or the home will be repossessed. The kids, Annabel, Georgie and John gets sent to the store for groceries when a wind blows the old kite through the park. Georgie picks it up to fly it and it almost takes off with him. Annabel, John and the local lamp lighter grabs a hold of Georgie and pull down the kite with Mary Poppins hanging under it. Mary Poppins helps take care of the kids and give Michael and Jane some magical life advice.
It is a happy uplifting movie with positive spins on the way of life and new fun tongue-twister songs with remarkable wordings. Mary Poppins brings us on a new exciting and magical adventure just like she did back in the days as we grew up. The songs and dance is good and well-made though it does not bring a new earworm like Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious. It is both new and familiar just like a sequel should be. The underwater scene could have been a little better; their hair was very clearly getting wind-blown and not flowing like in water. Also Emily Blunt does it perfectly, she makes you believe that she has always been Mary Poppins.
It is a fun uplifting and life-giving movie that just makes you happy to watch. It might be more for the people growing up with the original movie than it is for the newer generations. I will give it four out of five stars, it may even deserve more but right now four stars feels right.
