Shazam - Movie Review

Seven evil demons is threatening to break free from their prisons and an ancient wizard is seeking a champion inherit his powers and protect the world. Meanwhile the young Billie Batson is moving between foster homes trying to find the mother he was separated from as a little child. He has just left another home to follow his very last lead but with no luck. A new family, consisting of several foster kids and two parents from the foster system, is lining up to take him in. And after standing up to the bullies of his new brother Freddy, Billie gets transported to the wizard and given the powers to protect the world against the demons.
It is a light hearted and fun super hero movie about the meaning of families. It has some deep moments but most of the time it is about a fourteen year old boy figuring out how to be a hero in an adult body. There is a lot of focus on the super power learning curve which provide fun and stupid moments. Zachary Levi feels like the embodiment of an adult teenager. And Mark Strong is playing an impressive villain, though the villain story is ordinary, Mark Strong makes it impressive.
The movie is not of the grand visual kind with breathtaking animations. It is mostly standard up to date animations that is used. The costumes on the other hand is quite nice and looks really good. All in all it is a good and fun superhero movie with a good side story and a cool villain. It can surely balance out the dark and gloom aura that is surrounding the DC cinematic universe. I give it four out of five stars and hope for even greater things in future movies. I took a few points from it for Shazam doing the floss dance.
