In The Shadow Of The Moon - Movie Review

A cop, Thomas Lockhart, works nights to try an earn a promotion in order to provide for his about-to-pop pregnant wife, when a string of mysterious deaths happens all over the city. People bleeds out and is found with two puncture wounds in their necks. While out working he chases a suspect down into the subway where a confrontation leads to the suspects death. At the same time his wife is rushed to the hospital in labour where she dies giving birth to his daughter. Nine years goes by before the next death happens. Thomas cop has been promoted and does his best in keeping his life together and being a great father but he is haunted by his wife's death. While investigating the new deaths a professor says that it is connected to the moons position. Thomas dismisses this until he meets the dead suspect again now alive leading to him loosing everything in trying to solve this mystery.
This is one of those science fiction philosophical movies that tries to ask a question about the ethical use of technology. Asking the question "is it okay to kill people if you know their existence will lead to a bad timeline?". But it is wrapped up in the shell of a murder mystery movie. A new take on an old plot. It is not anything wildly innovative but it does have a different approach and a slightly different story. It starts out really strong with the mysterious deaths but as the movie proceeds it becomes a little more flat in the mystery department. The ending is unsatisfactory and I found it to be predictable which my just be my great movie watching skills that kicked in.
It is very on the nose with limited use of wild and amazing effects which fits the plot as it is a down to earth story of a cop solving a mystery. Personally I do not think this movie is something exceptionally great but I can already imagine the internet use words like "mind-blowing", "a must see" and other overdramatic hype words they also used on movies like Interstellar, Predestination, Looper, Inception and others. I think they are wrong but that is my opinion. I will give this two stars out of five. The start of the movie gave me greater expectations than the end delivered.
