Good Boys - Movie Review

The three boys Max, Lucas and Thor have just entered sixth grade and now has to figure out a whole new social world. Max is in love with the girl Brixlee and gets invited to the popular kids kissing-party. Thor loves to sing and considers auditioning for the musical but the cool kids makes fun of him and he starts pulling away from what he loves. Lucas is a good kid whose parents is going through a divorce and tries to hold on to his friends to maintain some stability. But Max gets Thor and Lucas invited to the party with him and as none of them have ever kissed a girl they start freaking out. After an unsuccessful search on the internet they decide to spy on Max's neighbour who is an older girl dating college guy. But with no clear visibility they put Max's dad's drone in use without permission. The drone is lost and ends up in a wild adventure to retrieve a new drone, learn how to kiss and avoid getting caught by the neighbour girl all before Max's dad comes home so they can go to the party without getting grounded.
This is fun and crazy movie that takes on many of the problems kids in the tween age group experiences like bullying, trying to fit in, being true to one self, divorcing parents, romance, growing up and apart and much more. Of course it is set in an extreme satirical setting that only the fewest kids would experience (I presume this as it has been some time since I was twelfth and even then I did not experience anything for I was busy playing computer). The kids tackles these problems in their life by trying to act more mature and copy the action and words of adults while still holding on to their childlike nativity. You might fear that this is just another stupid movie with excessively unrealistic situations only made to get a cheap laugh. And you are some what right but this is actually a more serious movie than many in the same category. It takes a new perspective on what these movies can be and which topics to deal with. Unlike SuperBad, American Pie, EuroTrip, Sexdrive and more this movie is not focussing on how important sex is for our social status. It focusses on finding ones passion, growing up and being true to oneself.
It is a very fun and enjoyable movie with good humour. It is not for the entire family as it brings a lot of mature humour. I will give it four out of five stars because it does a good mix of something really stupid and something mature and wholesome. It also makes me wish for a second and third movie where we keep following these three kids through the complicated mess that is teenage life and into adulthood.
