Finding 'Ohana - Movie Review

The tween Pili wins a Geocache hunt in New York and looks forward to go to a Geocaching summer camp. But the plans change as her grandpa gets sick she and her mom and brother have to go back to Hawaii to help him. They soon learn that grandpa is losing their family home and mom consider selling their apartment in New York to help out. This idea doesn't sit well with Pili and her brother so when Pili learns of a hidden treasure she takes on a real treasure hunt to help her family.

Finding 'Ohana is a modern take on The Goonies with a treasure hunt, deadly traps and the possibility of losing their home and everything they know if they fail. But it is also a movie about the Hawaiian culture teaching us about Nightmarchers, the Hawaiian hospitality, their respect for the dead and the nature. It is a classic family movie where things may seem a little scary for the young at sometimes but nothing bad really happens. And the morale of the story is that the real treasure is your family and the friends that you have.

It is a sweet family movie about adventure, family and friendship. At points the plot seems a little too convenient and the end is discussable. But never the less a fine movie with funny moments and a possibility to learn about Hawaiian culture. I will give this movie three and a half out of five stars.
