He's All That - Movie Review

When the beauty influencer Padgett Sawyer tries to surprise her boyfriend she finds him having an affair with another woman, which results in her having a meltdown live-streamed. Following the incident she experience a large decrease in followers and she loses her sponsorship which means she might not be able to afford college. To proof to herself, her friends and her sponsor that she is worth the title of beauty influencer she makes a bet stating she has to turn the biggest loser into prom king.

He's All That is a modern gender-swap re-imagined version of the 1999 classic She's All That. Which give it a disadvantage as it is always difficult for re-imagined movies to succeed. If it does bad it will be criticized for trying to milk on the original and if it succeed it could easy be criticized for being a copy. But He's All That is honest about where it comes from both with its title and by Rachel Leigh Cook and Matthew Lillard being on the cast list. And though the plot feels a little weak in the beginning with a character that seems to have no more personality than just being popular it grows stronger and turns out as a great movie.

I love the actors, many great beautiful and "young" talents with great acting and dancing skills. But they are clearly all too old to be high-schoolers. Hollywood really should start using age appropriate and more "normal" looking kids (meaning no beards and hard rock six packs) as high-school students. Besides that they are all doing a great job in the movie and should really get some recognition for a good movie. Especially Tanner Buchanan and Addison Rae has a great chemistry and really makes the movie.

As I write this review I am watching the movie or the second time this evening. I like the movie, it sweet and fun and a great family movie about the problematic pressure and constant need to be popular and liked in high-school. I will give it four out of five stars.
