Vivo - Movie Review

After many years of bringing joy and life to Havana with his music, the old street musician Andrés Hernandez receives a letter from his long lost love, Marta Sandoval, inviting him to her final show. Andrés decides to go and take this opportunity to finally proclaim his love for her. Unfortunately Andrés passes away in his sleep before ever getting the chance to confess his feelings and leaves behind his friend, the kinkajou Vivo, and an old unpublished song. Vivo has to deal with the death of his only friend believes that if he can bring Andrés' song to Marta, he can get one last memory with Andrés.

Vivo is an emotional adventure musical in the clear musical styling of Lin-Manuel Miranda. It is filled with playful and expressive music that greatly enhances the experience of the story. And the story is already good from the start and all the way to the end with a good message of friendship, helping each other and remember to tell the ones you love that you love them before it is too late. And though the movie is very up beat and fun to watch these serious topics shows as a big ingrained part of it.

Livo is a lovely family movie with great and playful animations, especially during the songs. I do personally think it takes it a little over the top at some points. The ordeals Gabi and Vivo have to got through in order to deliver the song seems a little too extra ordinary compared to how ordinary the world around them is. But it could be argued that these ordeals seems so extra ordinary is because the moments are only experienced by kids and therefore seems much bigger. I will give it four and a half star out of five. There were a few things that felt a little off for a few seconds and then it went over.
