The Sea Beast - Movie Review

The young girl Maisie Brumble escapes the orphanage to seek out the captain of the Inevitable to join the crew of hunters. Meanwhile Captain Crow returns to the King and Queen with proof of their latest victory over a sea beast. But the King and Queen have grown tired of waiting for the hunter to take down the dreaded Red Bluster and wants to decommission the hunters and instead let the royal navy deal with the monsters. Jacob Holland manages to talk the King and Queen into giving them one last chance to prove that there is still a need for the hunters and the Inevitable ships out to have their final battle with the Red Bluster.

The Sea Beast is an animated family movie with a story that feels like the combination of How to Train Your Dragon and Moby Dick. The animation style is kind of rough and semi realistic yet it is also wondering and magical. Which just strengthen the combinatory vibes of How to Train Your Dragon and Moby Dick. It got many subtle themes throughout the story but it is not subtle about the big message of the story. It very bluntly throws the of the problems with generational racism and how history is biased towards the writers. It might be a little too blunt and breaks the climax of the story but on the other hand it might still go over the head of too many. Besides the big message at the end the story is mostly focused on the characters and the world that surrounds them and the end of the story becomes quite short.

It is a very nice movie with a good story set in a beautiful interesting. It is enjoyable, cosy and very good for a family movie night. It would also be good movie to use for educational purpose because even though it very bluntly gives the message of the movie, it brings up very good discussing points like "You can be the hero of the story and still be wrong". I will give it four out of five stars. There were some points in the story that could have been fleshed out more but overall it is a great movie.
