Inside Out 2 - Movie review

Riley is thirteen now and the night before she and her best friends, Grace and Bree, goes to a three day hockey camp, her puberty alarm goes off and things are changing in the emotion headquarters. Anxiety, Envy, Ennui and Embarrassment are moving in to help Riley through puberty, but when she learns that Grace and Bree are going to another high school after summer and she is going to be all alone, Anxiety starts planning how to get new friends. Unfortunately, Anxiety goes of the rail and it is up to Joy, Sadness,
Anger, Disgust and Fear to save Riley from losing herself.

Like the first, Inside Out 2 is dealing with and illustrating some of the emotional challenges a child might go through growing up. This time Riley is struggling with the anxiety of being left behind when her friends goes off to another high school, losing a sense of self as she tries to fit in and impress the other teens, the anxiety of not being good enough and even a panic attack. These complex emotional experiences are explained in an easy, fun and approachable way that will help children and teens figure out their own internal feelings.

Inside Out 2 is a fun and wholesome animation movie enjoyable for the whole family. The movie is filled with relatable moments and jokes for parents and teens alike about growing up and raising a child. And the way it illustrates these serious emotional moments through a fun and interesting story makes it a very teachable movie. It is the perfect sequel to an already great movie and it shows how much potential there is fore more movies in the Inside Out franchise, not only as a continuation of Riley's story but also show how different people might experience growing up differently.

The only thing I believe could have been better, is I believe the movie should have done a little more and been a little deeper emotionally. In the first movie we had some very heartbreaking moments with Bing Bong who sacrificed himself and Riley running away from home and I do not think Inside Out 2 hit the same level. Otherwise, it is an incredible movie and I recommend that everyone watches it. I am therefore giving it four and a half stars out of five.
