Dragon Age: Inquisition or DAI as it is shortened is the third Dragon Age game. I do not know all secrets to it yet but I think I am close therefore I feel comfortable to say that it is not the best game in the series but it is definitely not the worst either. They have re-incorporated different races which was something many fans had requested since it was removed from the series in the second game and it was nice to be able to customise so much. But there is sort of a problem to it, because it does not really matter which race you pick, there is some race specific equipment and one or two race specific relationship, but there is nothing really specific to the races, no special starting, no racial traits, nothing that makes some races more attractive for something than others (Oh and please correct me if I am wrong, because I hope I am). For me it does not really make sense not to have something that makes the race more specific, yes it is nice to play elver again because they are pretty but why should I play any other race.
Then the game starts and it is pretty, it slowly introduces gameplay and story without taking too much time and you get to explore large maps for secrets and fun, the fighting animations have been simplified a little as well to make more natural than Dragon Age 2.
And suddenly level up, know we have to put some points in the skill tree and at first point it seems okay, but some levels into the game you feel locked in your choices. Yeah you can always just reset the points for a small monetary gesture but there is no real diversity, there is no real way to pick and choose the skills you want without wasting too many levels and point on something you do not want. The skill tree was another thing they should not have brought from DA2 but should rather have used something similar to the skill tree in DAO (Dragon Age: Origins).
I think it is fine that I no longer have to put points in stats my self and stats only gets increased with as an additional effect on passive skills, but I miss all the sustainable abilities because that was another thing that made you take up in ones skills more tactical. I could say more about this topic but I have to restrain myself at some point.
So let us proceed, as we get further into the game we start to looking for romance options (Some of us also tried to walk around naked), what I found in the romance department was not really my taste thus this is the game with most options. First I had hoped for a new chance with Leliana as I romanced her quite a lot in DAO, but she have turned really uptight and dull. Before she was all romantic and sweet and told about how she and the other chantry sisters experimented sexually with each other, now you can not even flirt with her and she only think about work, so Leliana you used to be cool. So I looked further and the only one who fell into my taste was Lace Harding, a cute dwarf, but apparently just put in the game for a quick flirt and to ruin the life of those who likes her.
Then there are some disagreements between me and the amount of equipment (A helm and body armor does not mean a complete set).
The tactical system, to say at what point some should use potions is not tactics, to stop a fight for minutes just to do something with all your men is not tactics, that is playing God. Tactics is like in DAO where you can plan all actions and counter actions before a fight.
I have a lot more opinions but my mind just tuned down as I putted on bones and you probably do not care about all my weird ideas but to sum up:
- More racial differences like racial traits and starting story.
- Please drop the censure, let us (men/women/unicorns) walk in our underwear if we want to. We pretty much want 18+ games.
- Better skill trees, let us customise our choices.
- Better tactics.
- Multiple endings is always a fine addition.
Well that was probably a quarter of what I want to say but this will do, all in all I will give it nearly 4 stars because gameplay and story is decent but could get a few improvements.
